NEW UNIT: Literary Timeline: Over the next three-four weeks we are going to take a whirlwind tour through the history of American Literature.  By the end of the unit you will have tasted samples from each major movement and period to give you a sampling of the ideas, themes and styles of those time periods.  This will also help put you in position for your Research Paper Unit in which you will look at the background of one author.

LEARNING TARGETS: Be able to transfer the following unit targets into your own words

READING

• CCR1: Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences fro it.  Cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support your conclusions drawn from the text.
• CCR2: Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize key and supporting details.
• CCR 6: Assess how point of view or purpose shapes the content and style of a text
• CCR7: Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in different media or formats, including visually and quantitatively as well as in words in order to address a question or solve a problem.
• CCR9: analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take.
• CCR10  Read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently.
