PRESENTATION RULES

  • Being a good listener helps your grade.  Being a poor listener hurts.
  • If you are not ready to go on the day it is your turn: two choices
    • Wing it
    • Go to the back of the line.  Take late credit (50 percent max)
  • If you have an EXCUSED or EXEMPTED absence on the day it is your turn to go…
    • You go on the day you return.  You can go first if you want.  Otherwise, you’ll go last that day.
  • If you have an UNEXCUSED absence on your day:  you go to the back of the line and get 1/2 credit at most.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 23

    2. To Whom?
    3. Why?

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11 and THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12.

PROMPT FOR TODAY:  What do you think your author’s overall message is?  What lessons are you learning from your book?  What makes you think that?  (keep this idea in mind–and it’s OK to change as you read more and have new information).

REMINDER:  Here are some of the questions you’ll have to deal with in your presentation

Characters and Text Structures

  • Who are the characters? What are they all about?

Overview/Summary of Book Take Away

  • Review your connections and theories from your reading, and discussions you have been a part of. Share one insight you have gained that impacts the way you read, the way you see central ideas in or across the text, or the way you interact with others.

Explain how your author connects details, or uses a single element or structure of autobiography, biography, or memoir to promote a central idea.

What life lesson was learned? By the characters? By the reader?

Favorite Quote(s)/Passage(s)

  • Identify some of your favorite quotes or passages AND analyze what they mean and why you chose them.

TUESDAY OCT 10

PROMPT FOR IND. READING LOGS TODAY:  What’s one quote that stood out to you?  Why?

Here’s an example of a good one from yesterday:

  • “It seemed as if the sky were going to break and fall on the earth.”
I really like this quote because I think everyone has had a moment (obviously not to Ishmael’s extent) that they just feel like even the sky is going to fall out of the sky. It also says a lot about the scene and how he is viewing the world he’s in right now.

MONDAY OCTOBER 9

MONDAY’S READING LOG PROMPT:

  • What’s one quote from your reading today that stands out as particularly meaningful?  Why?
