Happy 45th Birthday to my sister, Stacy!
WARMUP: write an original sentence for each of the following VOCAB words for this week. Note, to really get the most out of this, you should make sure the sentence isn’t generic (something where you could plug in almost ANY word).Unit 2 vocab (modified).docx
- Adroit
- Cursory
- Holocaust
- Nostalgia
LEARNING TARGETS: As a result of today’s class, you should be able to
- Define “HAIKU” and know how many haikus will count as ONE POEM in your poemfolio (hint, it’s four and they should be on a related subject).
- Define OBSERVATION POEM
- Be able to explain what you will need to do tomorrow if you want to miss most of class THURSDAY to do observations.
- Be able to explain the difference between a strong fourth column in your weekly reflections and a not strong one: Things I learned/things to remember for unit assessment and/or final exam
- NOT STRONG: “I learned how to cite from a poem in MLA STYLE.” or “I learned that I need to know how to cite from a poem in MLA STYLE”
- STRONG: I learned that to cite in MLA Style use parentheses, author’s last name and line number (Collins 11).
UPCOMING DUE DATES
- By next Sunday: Reflection 2 (should update daily–at Google Classroom)
- By next Monday: Poemfolio draft due
- Next Tuesday (10/5): In class writing: you’ll receive a poem, you’ll have to analyze and write to a prompt: what is the theme and how does the author use poetic devices to develop that theme.
