A) Explain the steps and tools used to ANALYZE a quote at a level above “comprehension.”

B) Write an SAT-style multiple choice question that requires users to analyze a quote from The Hunger Games

C) Be able to briefly explain Blooms Taxonomy/Levels of Thinking

IN CLASS:

  1. Reviewed Bloom’s Taxonomy/Levels of thinking
  2. worked in groups of three to complete a quote analysis exercise (distributed on hard copies in class and posted to classroom and debriefed that activity.
  3. Time remaining: reading time

  1. Be read through Chapter 9
  2. Remember: Quiz tomorrow (Multiple Choice, some short answer/quote analysis)

  • Trope:
    • a recurring theme or motif, as in literature or art:the trope of motherhood;the heroic trope.
    • a convention or device that establishes a predictable or stereotypical representation of a character, setting, or scenario in a creative work:From her introduction in the movie, the character is nothing but a Damsel in Distress trope.The author relies on our knowledge of the Haunted House trope to set the scene.
  • The Hero’s Journey
  • THE MOST COMMON THEMES IN LITERATURE

In class:

  • Discuss the concept of a trope
  • Watch video: The Hero’s journey/Discussion–how does it apply to our novel?
  • Read article: most common themes in literature. Discuss: which ones most apply to our novel.
