  • Explain how Gatsby’s association with somebody like MEYER WOLFSHEIM might be a black mark on his name, especially in the eyes of East Eggers
  • Explain why Gatsby bought his mansion and why he throws his parties
  • Explain how Daisy came to marry Tom
  • Explain how Tom’s “incident” in Santa Barbara fits in with the story
  • Explain at least one way that Gatsby’s story dovetails with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s real life.

  • Daisy
  • Gatsby (even though we hear more about him than we actually see–until the last paragraph or two)
  • Jordan
  • Nick (the narrator)
  • Tom

Assignment is posted to classroom. It should be worked on with your table groups. You should not move seats.

Expect a short comprehension quiz on Ch. 1 tomorrow. (Basically, if you read it carefully at all, should be easy. If you didn’t read, should be something you don’t do well on).
