Welcome back….

LEARNING TARGETS:  as a result of what we do in class these three days you should be able to answer the following questions:

  • What roles do each of the following play in the novel (what do they represent for the reader)?
    • Dill
    • Calpurnia
    • Aunt Alexandria
  • What makes the trial dramatic?  (Since we are all but told the outcome ahead of time).

    • READ 18 for Thursday
  • Thursday, Discuss 18, Read 19 (If a Snow Day, Read 20 by Friday.
    • Big Questions to ask
      • What’s Mayella’s life like?
      • How do we come to “know” that the Ewell’s version of incidents are likely false while Tom’s version is true?
      • What’s the point of Dill and Scout’s encounter with Dolphous Raymound
  • FRIDAY:  Discuss 19, Read 20  (if snow day Friday, read through 21 by Monday).

CHAPTER 12

    1. Discussion Question: Has Jem grown throughout the story already? I can’t exactly remember if he was as mature and respectful in the beginning. He carried his aunts bag for Cal.  (pg. 167)
    2. Uh What? Why is Atticus low key going against what he thinks just because his sister thinks a certain way? I don’t understand that.  (pg. 177)
    3. Powerful passage: When Scout said “… I can’t remember everything Finches are suppose to do…” shows that their Aunt wants them to be like the old Finches.  (pg. 179

FRIDAY 12/15

IN CLASS: We discussed Chapter 6 and read Chapter 7 of TKAM

LEARNING TARGET:  you should be able to complete a statement about how the readers’ perception of Boo Radley changes from Chapter 1 to Chapter

 

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  • Chapter 6
    1. Why does Scout disapprove of Jem and Dill looking into Boo’s window?
    2. What does Nathan Radley really know about the intruders in his garden? Who receives the blame?
    3. How does this chapter help us have more sympathy for Boo?

 

HOMEWORK:  Complete the Checkpoint sheet at GOOGLE CLASSROOM by Monday.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14

IN CLASS TODAY:  

  • Discussed Chapter 4 of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
  • Read 5&6  (HOMEWORK IF NOT FINISHED)

LEARNING TARGETS: you should be able to answer the following questions

  1. What do the kids find in in the tree near the Radley house?  What do you make of this?
  2. Why do they turn Boo’s life in a game? What is the game?
  3. What surprising event happens at the end of the chapter? What is this important? What might it foreshadow?

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2017

LEARNING TARGETS:  As a result of today’s lesson, you’ll 

  1. Be able to explain how the above pyramid ranks lower to higher order thinking skills.
  2. Be able to answer the following questions about CH. 3
    1. Who is Calpurnia? What is her place in the household?
    2. What is Walter Cunningham like? How is he treated by Atticus and Calpurnia?
    3. What does Scout learn from Walter’s visit to her house?
    4. Atticus tells Scout that there is only one way to understand someone. What is it? Do you agree or not? Why?
    5. What do we learn about the Ewells in this chapter?
