  3.  Increasing the size and usefulness of your vocabulary.
  4. Being able to organize and defend an argument
  5. Being able judge the effectiveness of sources (research)
  6. Being able to correctly cite sources using MLA Style

 

 

Tuesday: JAN. 22, 2019: A day of Irony

LEARNING TARGETS: by the end of this class period you should be able to:

  1. Define (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) each of three types of irony:
  2. Be able to create an original example of each.
  3. Summarize Richard Feynman’s learning technique

 

IN CLASS:

  1. We read and briefly summarized the article about Richard Feynman’s learning technique.
  2. Watched the videos about the different types of irony (followed by brief discussion).
  3. Using the chart we received yesterday, worked to create original examples of each type of irony.

 

 

 

Monday January 21, 2019: Second Semester day 1

WELCOME TO DAY 1 of the brand new semester.

LEARNING TARGETS FOR TODAY: by the end of the hour you should be able to

  1. Find the links at the website to Google classroom codes and second semester exam review materials.
  2. Identify your personality type on a basic personality tester.
  3. Identify three key habits of a successful student.

 

 

WHAT WE DID IN CLASS: 

  1. Brief intro to new semester
  2. Took and briefly discussed online personality test above.
  3. Filled out 3×5 card with name, personality type etc.
  4. Received handout with second semester literary terms and, time permitting, started discussion of IRONY.

 

WEEK OF JANUARY 7-11

THIS WEEK:

  1. Finish any/all unfinished work for which you would like credit.
  2. Begin exam prep (review sheet coming by Wednesday).  EXAM FORMAT
    1. 100 points
    2. 60 points: combination of multiple choice/short answer
      1. Journalism basics and rules
      2. First Amendment
      3. Media Law (court cases/censorship etc)
      4. Writing and style
      5. Basics of video (composition/ How to tell a story in video
      6. Basics of design (CRAP etc.)
      7. Photo/video composition
  3. 40 points: Practicum
    1. OPTION 1:  Write a story from provided notes and quotes.
    2. OPTION 2:   Create a storyboard/plan for a video from provided notes and quotes.
